Louisa County Public Schools has a green light to proceed with a plan to rev up internet speeds for students and teachers at all four elementary schools.

The schools received notice on Nov. 17 of a $1.1 million grant award from the Federal Communications Commission to lay fiber-optic cables in the ground to link the schools to the central office complex, which includes the middle and high schools. If the state kicks in funds to complement the federal grant as expected, LCPS should be responsible for less than $200,000 of the $1.4 million project cost.
