Lula W. Butler
Lula Wright Butler, 82, of Short Pump, went to her eternal home with her family gathered around her on September 22, 2013.
Known as “Lu,” “Boots” and “B,” Mrs. Butler was born on June 8, 1931, in Louisa County. She was a member of Ridge Baptist Church.
Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Lynn Butler; and her parents, Billie and Margaret Wright.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Worther “Dick” Butler; her sons, David Butler and Joey Butler; her daughter, Karen (Steve) Wrigley; her great-granddaughters, Miley and Liliana; her sisters, Margaret Rosson and Lois Bond; her brother, Henry “Sonny” Wright; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Bennett Funeral Home chapel. Interment was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

James W. Raettig
James Walter Raettig, 80, of Varina, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013.
He was the owner and operator of Piano Transport Company.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Virginia Perkins Raettig.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved children, Lori Ann Curtis and her husband, Wayne, of Mechanicsville, Karen Newberry and her husband, Dee, of Quinton and Scott Raettig and his wife, Angela, of Louisa; a brother, William “Bill” Raettig and his wife, Doris; his grandchildren, Kasey and Kristy Curtis, Brannon and Blake Newberry and Michael, Joel and Jessa Raettig; and a special friend, Reggie Carroll.
The family will receive friends for visitation at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Thursday, Oct. 17, from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. in the Nelsen Funeral Home chapel.

Bertha J. Wood
Bertha Johnson Wood, 86, of Washington D.C., formerly of Bumpass, died Saturday, September 26, 2013.
She was born June 27, 1927, in Louisa County, to the late John Frank and Irene Woodley Johnson.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Roy Walter, Lawrence, Merrell, Napoleon, Alfred and Jasper Johnson; and three sisters, Hazel Moss, Ellaree Johnson and Susie Goldston.
Bertha was a 1945 graduate of the Louisa Training School and worked at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing for many years.
She is survived by four sons, Ringo, Rodney (Evette), Carlos (Dawn) and Juan Wood; a brother, Lenwood (Daphne) Johnson of Trevilians; a step-daughter, Joyce Finney; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Church of God, Washington, D.C.
Frances D. Wright
Frances D. Wright, 73, of Alexandria, formerly of Louisa, died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
She was born March 26, 1940, to the late John Henry and Edith Willis Wright.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Roy O. Wright.
Frances was educated in Louisa County Public Schools and was a member of Peach Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Letitia Gatlin-Newman, Letonia Levister and Lila Levister of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; a godson, Robert Ellis III; and a devoted niece, Geraldine Shelton of Louisa; three brothers, Calvin and Henry Wright of Orange and the Rev. James W. Wright of Charlottesville.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 7 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Alexandria. Her nephew, the Rev. John C. Wright Jr., was the eulogist.
