Volleyball team finds postseason success

Last year, Louisa would have settled for just a district win or two. When this year started, the team wanted to settle for nothing less than a postseason win.

On Monday, Nov. 4, they made that a reality.

Louisa defeated Charlottesville 3-0 to take home a postseason win before falling 3-0 to John Handley in the conference semifinal match on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Head coach Joel Abe said the team’s postseason win was a long time coming and well deserved.

“I think it’s fantastic,” Abe said. “It’s a testimony to the girls on the team.”

Those girls never let their goal be in doubt in their thrashing of Charlottesville.

Jill Elkins and Heather Treynor held serve for the Lions for three straight points at the start, and a hustle play by Megan Hummil to make a diving save gave Louisa momentum and an early 12-2 lead in the first game, which Louisa won 25-18.

The second game offered a little more competition. Trailing 17-18, Louisa returned three consecutive spikes by the Black Knights before Charlottesville’s last attempt sailed out of bounds.Michaela Gibson gave the team three good serves near the end and Louisa squeaked out a 26-24 thriller.
