John D. Busbee
John, born in Louisa County, died at his home in Franklin, Tennessee, on November 15, 2013, at the age of 84.
He is survived by his wife, Jo; his daughter, Joann Henslee and her husband, Charlie, of Brentwood, Tennessee; his granddaughter, Alexis Henslee of Nashville, Tennessee; and grandson, Charles “Chip” Henslee also of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Annie and Ollie Busbee of Gordonsville; and a brother, Larkin, of Melbourne, Florida.
John was employed for 35 years by State Farm Insurance in Charlottesville, retiring in 1988.
Fulfilling John’s wishes, his burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa, will be private.

Cecily A. Clemons
Cecily Ann Clemons, 23, made a peaceful departure from our world and into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, November 14, 2013, quietly resting at home and in her bed, with her loving parents by her side. We are in awe of her tremendous strength of resolve and perseverance in the face of a two year battle against leukemia.
She is survived by her parents, Guy and Cecile Clemons; and an extended group of family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church Ashland, 800 Thompson Street, Ashland, VA 23005 on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 2 until 3 p.m., with a reception to follow. Visitation with family will be held one hour prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Clemons Family Fund in care of First Baptist Church, Ashland.

Hannah L. Grooms
Hannah Lee Grooms entered her eternal rest on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
She was the daughter of the late Frank and Carrie Burruss Grooms and John and Ethel Grooms Minor.
Hannah accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and was a member of the Foster Creek Baptist Church, Louisa. She served on the senior choir, gospel ensemble, missionary board, and Willing Workers. She was a faithful member and loved her church and church family.
Hannah was educated in the Louisa County Public Schools. She worked for General Electric for 37 years and was very dedicated until her retirement. She had a great love for her family, a beautiful smile, was very kind, compassionate and loved dining out at Red Lobster and Wood Grille.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Frances Johnson; a brother, Shelton Grooms; and a sister, Windell Hackney.
Hannah is survived by one son, Cornell Johnson (Nancy) of Troy; two daughters; Ethel Williams of Louisa, and Dale Lindsay (Jerome) of Troy; one grandson, Brandon Johnson (LaToya); four granddaughters, Krista Johnson, Natosha Lindsay, Brooke Williams and Ebony Lindsay; five great-grandchildren, D’Naisha Lindsay, Elijah Wilson-Johnson, Isaiah Harper, Kaleb Hill and Leonna Johnson; three brothers, Frank Grooms Jr. (Ricky), Carl Grooms (Millie) and Willie Mason (Dorothy); three sisters, Julia Thurston (Eugene), Mary Frances Henderson and Lucy Epps; a devoted friend, Rosie Burruss; three uncles, two aunts and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Michael Crawley Jr., were held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Foster Creek Baptist Church. Interment was in the Grooms Family Cemetery.

Ralph W. Martin
Ralph Wilson Martin, of Falmouth, last surviving child of the late Thomas Owen and Maggie Dickinson Martin, of Louisa, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg.
Mr. Martin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He had worked at FMC for 27 years and then retired after more than 20 years with the city of Fredericksburg.
Survivors incude his wife of 63 years, Carlene Brooks Martin; his daughters, Linda Duvall of Fredericksburg and Denise Brann (Larry) of Spotsylvania; his granddaughter, Angela Carter (Aaron) of Fredericksburg; and his great-granddaughters, Brooklynn and Emma Carter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Tommy, Richard, Guss and William; his sisters, Dorothy M. Anderson, Louisa M. Ely and Annie M. Trainum.
A graveside service was held at 12 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8 in Sunset Memorial Gardens, fredericksburg.

Helen L. Mastin
Helen Lois Mastin, 80, of Louisa County, was taken home by angels to her heavenly family Friday, November 15, 2013, at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
Mrs. Mastin was a member of Mine Road Baptist Church in Spotsylvania County. She was a charter member of the Spotsylvania Rescue Squad.
Survivors include her sons, Calvin “Tyke” Mastin (Allison) of Spotsylvania County and Bryant J. Mastin and his fiancé, Norma, of Orange County; her daughters, Rebecca Ouellette (Fred) of Stafford County and Sharon Brascher (John) of Mineral; her brothers, Kenneth Nestor (Lori) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Theodore Nestor of Spotsylvania; her sisters, Dorothy Gustafson of King George County and Joan Davitt (Carl) of Spotsylvania; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and very special friends, Pam and Bill Adkison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth E. and June Messersmith Nestor; her husband, Calvin Mastin; and her stepson, Gerald Mastin.
