Lady Lions head coach Jarred Soles gives final instructions to the team during the second overtime of their thrilling 51-45 victory over Harrisonburg. The Lady Lions are now 2-0 on the season.

You can almost hear the Louisa Lions girls team saying it in unison.

“Losing is so last year.”

One year after failing to win a game, the Lions pulled of a 51-45 win in double overtime versus the visiting Harrisonburg Blue Streaks to move their record to 2-0 to start the season.

“It’s definitely a good feeling, especially just for our confidence,” head coach Jarred Soles said. “When you go through a year like last year, you’re really worried about [your team’s] confidence. Getting early wins is big for us.”

Louisa led most of the game, and held a 13 point lead with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter. But Harrisonburg’s stingy defense kicked into high gear, forcing six turnovers within four minutes. Tied at 38 with just seven seconds left, senior Antonia Comfort had a one-and-one free throw situation, but was unable to connect on her attempt, and both coaches prepared for overtime.

In the first overtime, both teams held the ball for significant portions of the period. The Blue Streaks took a 40-38 lead early, but Lions forward Bre’Shae Bell connected on a bank shot from the middle of the paint to knot the score up with two minutes left and soon after the teams headed to a second overtime.
