They say “third time is the charm,” and it certainly was for Louisa track star Brandy Brown. In the Fork Union Mini Invite on Saturday, Jan. 11, the team’s third time competing at the track this season, Brown took home first place honors for her performance in the long jump (15-10.25) and triple jump (31-10.25). Brown’s performance was one of many put on by the Louisa track team.
And though Brown gave her own personal display of dominance throughout the day, teammate Aaliyah Clark wasn’t far behind. Clark came in seventh in the high jump (4-4) and long jump (13-10), while also taking fifth in the triple jump (28-3.25) and ninth in the 55-meter hurdles (11.76). Clark was the only Louisa athlete to finish in the top ten of four different individual events.
Louisa also got a boost from Kiana Richardson, who finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (10.79). Taylor Witherspoon took home seventh place in the shot put with a throw of 27 feet, six inches, which becomes even more impressive when you consider that she threw two feet, nine inches farther than she did in the same event just less than a month ago.
The two also contributed to the team’s 4 x 200 meter relay team along with Amari Quarles and Richardson to place third with a time of 1:59.20.
