Friday, Feb. 7

Macedonia United Methodist Church will hold a Winter Bible School Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 from 6 until 9 p.m., with dinner provided, and Sunday, Feb. 9 at 9 a.m. with lunch following the closing ceremony.  Break the winter blues, energize your spirit with adventures on Promise Island. Where kids discover God’s lifesaving love. Transportation provided via church bus within a 10 mile radius of the church’s address. Call (540) 967-1464 for transportation and registration, leave a message. In the event of  inclement weather, make up days will include Feb. 28, March 1 and  March 2. Saturday, Feb. 8

Laurel Hill Baptist Church will hold a dinner and movie night starting at 4 p.m.. A donation of $20 for couples, $15 for individuals ages 13 and up and $6 for children age 12 and younger is suggested.  Chaperons will be available for the younger ages, if necessary.  The church is located at 7652 Kentucky Springs road, Mineral.  For more information, contact Deconess Gertrude Coleman at (540) 894-4905.

 

Sunday, Feb. 9

Shady Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Black History Month with guest speaker Sheila Belle of Radio 104.7 FM. Worship will begin  at 10 a.m. The church is located at 3384 Oakland Church Rd., Gum Spring.

 

Wayland Baptist Church will welcome the Rev. Roosevelt Miller, associate minister of Union Branch Baptist Church, Arvonia, as guest speaker for 11 a.m. worship service.  Following this program will be a Black History presentation by George Grady, Buffalo Solider. The church is located at 1228 Oakland Rd., Louisa.

 

The Combined Voices of Praise will host a Black History program “With God All Things Are Possible” at Mt. Garland Baptist Church.  The celebration will begin with an old fashion lunch from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m.   A soul stirring prayer and praise service will begin at 2:30 p.m. featuring “One Accord.”   Afternoon services will begin at 3:00 p.m. The message will be delivered by Pastor- Elect the Rev. Dwain Cosby.  The Rev. Annie Holland, of First Baptist Church, Louisa, will be the worship leader for this program. The music for this occasion will be delivered by the First Baptist Senior Choir, Louisa. The church is located at 4000 Buckner Rd., Bumpass.

 

The Louisa Ministerial Association, The American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold its annual Four Chaplains Service at Louisa Christian Church at 4 p.m. This service honors the memory of four Army chaplains who sacrificed their lives on Feb. 3, 1943 when the U.S.A.T. Dorchester was tragically sunk.

These four chaplains, a Rabbi, a Roman Catholic priest, a Methodist minister and a Dutch Reformed minister, gave away their life jackets, which were their only means of survival so that others could live. It is their selfless heroic act on behalf of others that will be remember. They are a witness of what it means to live your life for others. These chaplains were last seen on the deck of the ship with their arms linked together and their heads bowed in prayer as the ship slipped to its watery grave.

Active members of the Armed Forces and veterans are invited to come in uniform. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow the service. For more information, contact the Rev. Marian Windel at (540) 223-2769.

 

Free Union Gospel Church will welcome Minister Howard Jackson at 3 p.m. The Voices of Praise Choir from Emmanuel United in Faith Baptist Church, Troy, will render the music. The church  is located at 10378 Louisa Rd., Gordonsville.

 

First Bible Way’s First Lady’s Day will honor Mother Alice Christmas at 3 p.m. First Lady Comfort, Branch Fork Baptist Church, Spotsylvania, will be the guest preacher.  Meredith Jackson will ministeri through song and Sister Desirae Lucas will minister with a praise dance. The church is located at 785 Goldmine Rd., Louisa.

 

Thursday, Feb. 13

Servants of Christ Baptist Church will give away a bowl of soup along with rolls and cookies starting at noon, eat-in only. This community outreach ministry is being hosted by the Servant Ladies. The church is located at 60 Sommerfield Dr., Zion Crossroads.

 

Saturday, Feb. 15

Shady Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Black History Month with the production of “Evolution of a Black Girl” at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are a $10 donation. Philippi Christian Church’s Sunday school will host the Black History program “We’ve Come This Far by Faith” at 3 p.m. The church is located at 7133 Jefferson Hwy, Mineral.

 

Sunday, Feb. 16

Shady Grove Baptist Church will celebrate Black History Month with the youth of the church taking charge of the service. Worship begins at 10 a.m. The church is located at 3384 Oakland Church Rd., Gum Spring.

 

First Bible Way will hold its annual Black History celebration at 3 p.m. Union Baptist Workshop Choir will be in full concert. The church is located at 785 Goldmine Rd., Louisa.
