Dollar General is slated to be open at Lake Anna this summer.

Locals soon will have another discount store at their disposal. Dollar General is bringing its business to Lake Anna.

Located at the corner of Kentucky Springs Road and New Bridge Road across the street from Food Lion, construction has already begun at the site. The company has already gotten site approval from the county and erosion sediment plans. A  building permit is expected to be issued in the upcoming weeks.

“They’re right on the verge,” Louisa County building official Paul Snyder said. “They’ve had to submit a couple extra documents for us to give building permits, but they’re almost ready to go.”

According to Dollar General spokesperson Jacqueline Dees, the store will have a total sales area of 7,500 square feet and will employ six to 10 employees.

Dees said the store should open sometime this summer, and Snyder added that the opening will happen sooner rather than later as the company looks to cash in on increased summertime traffic at the lake.

Andy Wade, director of economic development for Louisa County, said that the arrival of the new store is a win-win for everyone in the community, citing Dollar General’s appeal to a large demographic.

“I’m happy,” Wade said. “It’s additional tax revenue. It adds a variety of shopping for folks in that area of the county. It’s what we want on that corner … We want commercial growth out there.”

Dollar General has been aggressive in opening stores across the country. The company opened 650 new stores in 2013, and according to Dees, they want to open 700 more this year. Dees added that 70 percent of Dollar General’s 11,000 stores nationwide are in communities with less than 20,000 people, with an aim of serving customers within a radius of five miles.
