Shannon Sarmiento, owner and operator of Hair of the Dog in the town of Louisa, really knows her canines after working in the pet grooming industry for more than 20 years.

The small town appeal of Louisa, along with wanting to be more involved in a community as a way to get to know her neighbors, led Sarmiento and her family to the community in January 2011.

Sarmiento’s history includes working as a dog grooming trainer for Pet Smart and having her own business in the Manassas area for more than eight years, working in conjunction with a veterinarian. She has trained more than 35 dog groomers during her career. Sarmiento has even volunteered her services at a Charlottesville dog show.

All services related to dog grooming for your pampered pet are offered by Sarmiento such as baths, hair cuts and nail clipping. She also offers ear cleaning, teeth brushing, breath freshener and shaved pads.

“I discuss with my clients what they want before [we do anything],” Sarmiento said.
