The Mineral Volunteer Fire Department wrapped up its final year of involvement with the Mineral Bluegrass Festival this weekend by honoring long-time supporters of the organization, Jimmie and Shirley Dodd of Mineral.

The Dodds’ association with the bluegrass festival spans over three decades, until health issues forced the couple to step back last year. The fire department had planned to honor the couple at last year’s event, but the couple was unable to attend because of illness.

“This has been a wonderful partnership between the festival and the fire department,” Shirley said.  “We have enjoyed working with the fine men and women who dedicate their time to put on the show.”

When the promoters needed an organization to help with the efforts more than 30 years ago, Jimmie said the fire department was a natural choice.

“They have the know-how to keep everything running smoothly, have a good pool of hard workers and were willing to work with us,” he said.
