Janelle Castle, LPN, takes the blood pressure of one of her residents she cares for. Castle was named Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center 2013 employee of the year during a dinner hosted by the business earlier this year.

Each year, Louisa Health and Rehabilitation Center hosts a special dinner for its 12 employees of the month and announces the business’ employee of the year honoree.

The 2013 employee of the year was Janelle Carter, a licensed practical nurse who has been with the center for two years.

All 12 employees of the month are in running for the honor of employee of the year. Residents, colleagues, family, friends and members of the community are allowed to partake in the voting process.

Carter, who is completing one more semester for her registered nurse license, had clinicals scheduled the evening of the dinner, so her four-year-old son, Jackson, and husband, Jason, accepted the award for her.

As employee of the year, Carter received $600 and a plaque, along with a letter of recognition for her outstanding work.

“I was shocked to have won,” Carter said.

For as long as she can remember,  Carter has always wanted to be a nurse.
