Sunday, Mar. 11

Standing on The Promises of God Church will hold a Gospel Sing and Biblical Teaching Service at 3 p.m.  The guest preacher for the evening will be Elder Frederick Sales, of Fredericksburg.  Music will be rendered by The Ladies of Praise, Chosen, Sons of Praise and County Line Gospel Chorus. Missionary Day will be held at Canaan Soul Saving Station Church at 4 p.m. The Rev. Alice Christmas of First Bibleway Church, Louisa, will be the guest speaker.  She will be accompanied by her choir.  Music will be rendered by various churches from the area. The church is located at 6580 Venable Rd., Kents Store.

 

First Baptist Church will host its annual Black History celebration of the Louisa County Chapter of the Virginia State University Alumni Association at 3 p.m. Appearing in a joint gospel music concert will be the Gospel Chorus of Galilee Baptist Church, the Glorious Family Singers of New Anna, the Workshop Choir of the Rising Sun and other groups. Soloists will include Deaconess Marie Trice and Sister Tammy Shelton Scott of Zion Travelers and Rising Sun, respectively.  Following the service, a soul food dinner will be served in the fellowship hall by members of the local alumni chapter. All proceeds from the celebration will benefit the chapter’s scholarship fund  for Louisa students enrolled at Virginia State. The host church is located at 102 Meadow Ave., Louisa.

 

Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church has changed the time for its Sunday Services to 9 a.m. The church is located at the intersection of Chalklevel and Mt. Pleasant Church roads in Mineral.

 

The Rev. Samuel Scales will be the preacher at Thessalonia Baptist Church for Sunday services at 8 a.m.The church is located at 278 Old County Rd., Mineral.

 

Saturday, Mar. 17

Union Baptist Church of Trevilians, will hold its Deacon and Deaconess Day service at 3 p.m. The guest pastor, choir and church family for the afternoon will be Pastor Harold Arrington of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Orange. Deacons are encouraged to wear black and deaconesses in white attire.  The church is located at 1546 Vawter Corner Rd., Louisa.

Ebenezer Baptist Church’s Male Chorus will celebrate its 12th anniversary at 3 p.m.  Guest musical groups will include Bethany Male Chorus, Gospel Laborers, Mt. Olivet Male Chorus and St. Thomas Male Chorus.  The church is located at 109 Ebenezer Rd., Mineral.

 

The F.M. Roane Youth Choir will celebrate its eighth anniversary at Mt. Garland Baptist Church at 3 p.m. The church is located at 4000 Buckner Rd., Bumpass.

Sunday, Mar. 25

St. James Episcopal Church Women are planning “Make a Joyful Noise” to be held at the Louisa church at 2:30 p.m. Albrecht von Gaudecker, the featured musician, will perform several pieces on the St. James pipe organ. Also featured in the program are soloists Jelita Hopkins and her father, James Perry. An ensemble will introduce the program and sing the beloved benediction “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.”  von Gaudecker is a former St. James organist and choir master who is now at St. Paul’s Memorial Church, adjacent to the University of Virginia campus. Hopkins is the Louisa County High School choral director and Perry, is an accredited music therapist. The program will be followed by light refreshments in the church parish hall.

 

Free Union Gospel Church will hold its Black History program at 3 p.m. with Allen Jennings honoring the life of Henry Box Brown. Refreshments will be served.  The church is located at 10378 Louisa Rd., Gordonsville.
