County Fire and EMS volunteers and career personnel held a service at the Louisa Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the attacks of September 11.

They honored the fallen first responders who gave the ultimate sacrifice with a moment of silence.

“Let us take a moment of silence to remember not only those who lost their lives bravely in the line of duty 11 years ago today, but also the more than 1,600 civilian families that were impacted on September 11, 2001,” said Louisa County Fire and EMS Chief Keith Greene.

Louisa County High School students in the Firefighter program also held a ceremony at the county’s fire training center where a piece of World Trade Center steel is temporarily located.

The county is in the process of designing a monument to display the steel at the Louisa County Office Building.
