Jackie Carroll 

V. Jacqueline “Jackie” Schelling Carroll, 88, of Charlottesville, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012.

Born on May 19, 1924, in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Viola Mary Payne and Arthur T. Davis.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Paul Schelling.

She is survived by her husband of eight years, John “Jack” D. Carroll; three children, Donna Scheer of Woods Hole, Massachusetts, Larry Schelling of Leesburg, and Gloria Boughers Fillingame of Mineral; four grandchildren, Sarah Carson, Jessica Boughers Flaim, Gail Boughers and Jonathan Scheer; and one great-grandson, Owen Foster Boughers.

Jackie served her country in the United States Navy as a WAVE during World War II.  She taught classes for the American Red Cross and was a Girl Scout leader for many years.  She was a member of the Senior Center of Charlottesville and served on the board of directors.  She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.  Jackie devoted her life to the service of her community.

A funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Scott Davis, was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church,  Charlottesville.  Interment was in Kirk O’Cliff Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mineral.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church Building Fund or The Senior Center, Inc. of Charlottesville, VA.

John H. Mills Sr. 

John Harry Mills Sr., 62, of Palmyra, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Uiversity of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

John was owner and operator of J. H. Mills General Contractor and an independent installer for Lowes.

His brother, Phillip Mills, joined him in death later the same day. He is also predeceased by his parents, Wiley and Margaret Mills; his brothers, Wiley “Sonny” Mills Jr. and James Mills; and a brother-in-law, Donald Edwards.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy Richardson Mills; his children, Lorie Rose Waters (Bill), John Harry Mills Jr. (Melissa), Arthur Spence Mills and Rachel Jean Mills; his stepchildren, Sharon Wyant (Donald) and Doug Payne Jr.; grandchildren, Evan, Emily, Brandon, Ben, Adam, Pierce, and Jacob; his sisters, Virginia McDonald (George), Shirley Edwards, Mary Cichon (Steve), Martha Patterson (Donnie) and Lisa Mills; his sisters-in-law, Sue and Vickie Mills; his brother Phillip’s lifelong companion, Phil Suggs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Linda Crabbs, was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Macedonia United Methodist Church.

Memorial donations in John’s name may be made to Macedonia United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Faye Stewart, 1124 Holland Creek Road, Louisa, VA 23093.

Albert A. M. Messinger

Albert Andrew Michael Messinger, 88, of Mineral, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at his residence.

He was born in New York to the late Andrew and Margaret Messinger, served his country in the U.S. Marines and had been employed as an engineer with INT. Union of Operating Engineers.

Albert is predeceased by his wife, Annabelle; and a daughter, Karen.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Messinger and Keith Messinger; a daughter, Beth Abramson and her husband, Gil; a grandson, Joshua Abramson, all of New York; a brother, Gerald Messinger of Arizona; and a sister, Margaret Tarallo of New Jersey.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, New York.

Memorial donation may be made in his name to Saratoga County Animal Shelter, 6010 County Farm Road, Ballston, N.Y. 12020.
