Lion Nation is pulling together to support former head varsity football coach Mark Fischer after he was diagnosed with bone cancer in late September.
Locals have taken the view that once a Lion, always a Lion and individuals and groups have scheduled several fundraisers to help the Fischer family cover costly medical expenses.
Fischer is taking medications and undergoing chemotherapy treatments to fight the cancer, which has no cure, and he is facing the life-long battle with the same passion and determination he displayed on the Louisa gridiron.
“It’s just a letter that starts with “C.” You deal with it,” Fischer said. “But I’m not planning on going anywhere.
