Accident claims life of Lake Anna woman

Gail Martin, member of Lake Anna Rescue Squad and numerous community organizations in Louisa County, died in a car accident on Friday, December 23. Her husband, Bill Martin, also deeply involved in the community and a member of the Louisa County Planning Commission, was seriously injured in the accident. 
One of the many ways Gail Martin was known locally was as a contract reporter for The Central Virginian. She helped tell the story of Lake Anna and Louisa County by producing several articles every week about the people and events going on around the community she loved. 
 
FROM THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE:
Shortly after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle fatal crash on Route 618, Belsches Road approximately 1/10 of a mile west of Route 634, Bagby Road in Louisa County.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 2010 Toyota Prius ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle was heading westbound on Route 618 at the time of the crash.
The driver, who was wearing his safety belt, was flown by med-flight to Mary Washington Hospital in the City of Fredericksburg with serious life-threatening injuries.
 
The passenger, who was wearing her safety belt, died at the scene.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the on-going state police investigation.
