New Grace, a student choir from Grove City College, will perform at Gilboa Christian Church at 6 p.m. New Grace is a music ministry committed to serving Christ through song and unity as a body of Christian College students. The community is invited to a covered dish dinner following the performance. The church is located at 6780 Jefferson Highway, Mineral.
Saturday, Feb. 23
County Line Baptist Church Sunday School will present its Black History program at 6:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m. The church is located at 4070 County Line Rd., Kents Store.
Zion Travelers Baptist Church Women’s Ministry will present its rendition of “Sunday’s Best” at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Beulah Minor. Also featured on the program will be a tribute to Black History and local gospel musical talents. A soul food dinner will follow. The church is located at 3662 Roundabout Rd., Louisa.
Laurel Hill Baptist Church will hold a celebration for persons born in January or February at 3 p.m. Special guests will include the Yancey Brothers of Newark, Delaware, Tam and God’s Favor of Wilson, North Carolina and Mt. Olivet Male Chorus of Montpelier. The Master of Ceremony will be the Rev. Tommie Bailey from House of God Tabernacle, Orange. The church is located at 7652 Kentucky Springs Road, Mineral. The Mineral Spirits will host the ninth annual Gospel Sing at Mineral Baptist Church beginning at 4 p.m. In addition to several local groups, Nashville recording artist Hali Hicks will also be part of the lineup. The 21-year-old singer and songwriter is originally from Georgia but has been performing most of her life. She will be singing for a love offering as part of the program. Others scheduled to perform are the Mineral Spirits, SONRISE bluegrass gospel band, Just Us gospel band and True Spirit gospel band. A barbecue pork dinner will be served at the break around 6 p.m. with proceeds from the meal benefitting Mineral Christian Preschool. Door prizes will be awarded periodically throughout the evening and a winner will be selected for the handmade afghan made by Beckie Weakley. Tickets will be available during the Gospel Sing.
Sunday, Feb. 24
Ebenezer Baptist Church will hold a Black History celebration at 3 p.m. on the theme We’ve Come This Far By Faith. Guest groups to perform include Favor from New Life Deliverance Tabernacle Church of Richmond; Evergreen Baptist Church Malel Chorus, Fluvanna; the Brooks Family; Keisha Diggs; and Deacon Fleming Shelton. The church is located at 109 Ebenezer Rd., Mineral.
St. Thomas Baptist Church will hold its Black History program at 3 p.m. Featured in the program will be portrayers of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., President Barrack Obama, Mahalia Jackson and others. Lunch will be served at 1:15 p.m. The church is located at 1567 Bumpass Rd., Bumpass.
