The Louisa County High School Speech and Debate Team is continuing its winning ways as the season comes to an end.

The team placed numerous competitors at the Virginia High School League Regional Tournament in Loudon County in February.  Allie Osborne took second place in Original Oratory, an event which required her to deliver a speech she wrote on a topic of her choosing. Brandon Stanley took fourth place in Extemporaneous Speaking, in which contestants have a limited amount of time to research, write and deliver a speech on a current events topic.  Katelynn Harrison took fourth place in Dramatic Interpretation, performing a theatrical piece without the assistance of scene, set or other actors, and Niara Baskfield placed fifth in Impromptu Speaking, giving a short speech on topics with no real preparation time.

Osbourne and Stanley competed in the VHSL state tournaments in their respective events on March 23. Osborne finished in 3rd place.

On March 2, qualifying team members traveled to Madison County High School to compete in the VCFL state tournament. Osborne was awarded first place in original oratory.

Mikalah Lam won third place in Declamation, delivering a speech not written by the competitor. These students qualified to compete at the national tournament in May.
