Varsity Lady Hornets victorious over Lady Lions in Tuesday’s match

Stinging  the visiting Louisa  County High School Varsity softball team this past Tuesday evening  with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, senior Haley Jones put the finishing touches on a 5-3 Lady Hornet  victory as she lead her squad with three RBIs on the night.

A double to deep left field by senior Brittany Wratchford in the top of the first inning followed by a RBI single to right from teammate and fellow classmate McKenzie Riner, propelled Louisa to an initial 1-0 advantage over the host Lady Hornets.

Unfortunately for the Lady Lions, their lead was as short-lived as an early round “American Idol” audition, as Orange tallied a pair of runs in the home half of the first to double up their visitors and take a 2-1 edge after one inning of play was in the books.

“This was just two good teams going at it, Louisa and Orange is always going to be a good match-up.  The whole rivalry thing and all,” said Louisa Head Coach Dan Barrett.

With Lady Hornet senior pitcher Aysha Richardson looking very “Strasburg-esque” by hurling seven strong innings while striking out eleven Louisa  batters and surrendering only one earned run, Orange (9-0) didn’t need a great deal of offense as they registered only four hits on the night.

In front by a 3-1 score heading into the fifth inning, Louisa rallied once again to slice the margin to a one-run deficit.  Down to their last out, the Lady Lions pushed another run across the plate thanks in part to a pair of errors by the usually stellar Orange defense.
