Fatality in Thursday morning’s Rt. 522 accident in Louisa

UPDATE FROM THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE:
Louisa Co – At 7:10 a.m. this morning, Virginia State Police Trooper F. B. Ross responded to a three vehicle crash on Route 522, Zachary Taylor Highway just south of the Spotsylvania County Line.

The crash occurred when the driver of a 2002 Dodge Pick-up crossed over the double yellow line and struck a 1998 Subaru Outback head-on. The Dodge also struck a 1998 Toyota 4-Runner after the initial impact with the Subaru. The pickup overturned and came to rest on the passenger side. The Subaru overturned and came to rest on the right shoulder. The Dodge was traveling northbound and both the Subaru and Toyota were traveling southbound at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Dodge was flown to UVA Medical Center with serious life-threatening injuries. It remains under investigation whether he was wearing his safety belt. The driver of the Subaru, who was wearing his safety belt, died at the scene. No one in the Toyota was injured in the crash and both were wearing their safety belts.

Route 522 was closed in both directions until 1:10 p.m. to allow the Accident Reconstruction Team to assist in the crash investigation.

The Virginia State Police Division I Accident Reconstruction Team and the Louisa County Sheriffs Office assisted with the ongoing investigation.

No charges have been filed at this time.

Dodge Driver: Brandon E. Lane, 19, 14000 block of Reva Road, Boston, Va.

Fatal Subaru Driver: Joseph D. Snead Jr., 52, 11000 Jackson Town Road, Somerset, Va.

Toyota Driver: Hector A. Flores, 52, 1900 block of Silver Star Lane, Culpeper, Va.

Toyota Passenger: 26, year-old male

There is one confirmed fatality and two individuals were flown by med-flight to UVA Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Virginia State Police Division I Accident Reconstruction Team and the Louisa County Sheriffs Office is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
