Eleanor S. Boyd

Eleanor Summerall Boyd, 89, of Louisa, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Boyd was a very active member of Open Door Church.

Survivors include her son, Jimmy Hoyt Carroll and wife, Joyce, of Glouster; her daughters Grace I. Nowitsky of Richmond and Jewell Ann Deadrick and her husband, Michael, of Louisa; her sister, Mary Frances and Paula Clark; her sister-in-law, Martha Summerall; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 2 at Open Door Church. Interment will be at Dale Memorial Park.

Arrangements are being made by Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa.

Raymond L. Norton

Raymond L. Norton, of Gordonsville, died May 30, 2013 of complications from progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP).

He was born Nov. 3, 1930, in Louisa County, to the late Grace and Earl Norton of Gordonsville.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by on brother, Howard Norton, and one sister, Hazel Jacoby.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Weaver Norton; and their children, Patricia Young, Susan Norton and her husband, George Martin, Bruce Campbell and his wife, Pam, Raymond L. Norton Jr. and his wife, Daryn, Roger Norton and his wife, Annette, Karen Brooks and her husband, Steve; his grandchildren, Jacquelyn Berry and her husband, Mark, Michele Ritter, Jon Norton, Jennifer Osinski, Jennifer Norton, Justin Brooks, Valerie Gillispie and her husband, Cody; his great-grandchildren, Mallory Berry, Blake Berry and Danielle Norton; his sisters, Esther Waugh, Mildred Knight, Jeanette Powell and Joyce Deane; and many nieces and nephews; Marie Norton, the mother of his children; and Raymond and Jeanne’s jack russell terrier, Abbie.

A memorial service, conducted by Chaplin David Flack, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 3, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel, Gordonsville. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Derrick E. Burford 

Derrick Earl Burford, 21, of Louisa, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, in Louisa.

Born January 26, 1992 in Charlottesville, he was a son of Richard Earl Burford Jr. and Sandra Gail Hite Burford of Louisa.

Derrick was a member of Louisa Baptist Church and worked as an electrician’s helper at North Anna Power Station.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Kevin Rosseel of New York; two sisters, Cassie Burford of Louisa, Michelle Ingram and her husband, Rick, of Pennsylvania; his aunts and uncles, Mark Burford, Dale Burford, Debi Hara, Dot Crockett, Delbert Hite, Leroy Hite, Ron Hite and Peter Hessler; a host of cousins and other relatives; special friends, George Dorman, Ben Roach, Shylah Adcock, Wanda Thomas, Eddie Thomas, Jen Thomas and many others.

Derrick passed away alongside his girlfriend, Dawn Ross, of Louisa.

A memorial service, conducted by the Rev. Paige Green, was held at 11 a.m. on Monday May 27, at Louisa Baptist Church.

Dawn E. Ross

Dawn Elizabeth “Duckie” Ross, 18, of Louisa, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, alongside her boyfriend, Derrick E. Burford.

Dawn, born June 8, 1994, was a lifelong resident of Louisa and volunteered at the Louisa Moose Lodge #2065 for many events.

Survivors include her father, Mark P. Ross Sr.; her grandparents, Millie Ross of Louisa and Herbert Gene and Elliewood Dorman of Albemarle; her brothers, Andrew Blake Ross and his wife, Mary, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Mark Preston Ross Jr. of Shady Grove, Maryland; her sisters, Lanessa Brown of Charlottesville, Brittny Ross of Pittsburgh, Marenia and Cynthia Ross of Louisa and Dakota Bogart of Albemarle; and many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Ollie Sprouse and Selesse Rebecca Summitt; her grandfather, Leonard Ross; her aunt, Nancy Pruitt; her cousins, Charles Pruitt, Christina Garr and Nevaeh Beason; her uncle, Bobby Pruitt; and her sister, Katrina Lynn Brown.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29 at Woodward Funeral Home.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, at New Life Community Church, Louisa. Interment will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in her name to the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital, 1215 Lee St., Charlottesville, VA 22903, or to the Louisa Moose Lodge #2065.

Brenda J. Sapp

Brenda Joyce Sapp, 68, of Louisa, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Martha Jefferson Hospital.

She had retired as supervisor of the seafood department with Farmer’s Foods, Louisa.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nina Taylor.

She leaves to cherish her memory a very dear friend, Barbara “Boo” Williams.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
