Overcast skies and occasional downpours didn’t dampen the spirits of the golfers that came to play in the third annual Louisa Education Foundation Captain’s Choice “Golf Classic” on Saturday, May 18, at The Royal Virginian Golf Course.

At the end of play, golfers and tournament volunteers were treated to a delicious hand-pulled barbecue picnic lunch prepared by Royal Virginian owner Greg Glidewell and the RV staff. After team scores were confirmed by club pro Andrew Swigert, presentation of team and individual prizes concluded the tournament.

The team finishing first was the Louisa County High School team of Joe Azurin, Nick Morris, John Reynolds Jr., and Coach Nick Schreck, with a score of 62.

“Double Eagles” Mike Noland, Neal Hart, Ed Fuller and Craig Sly, came in second with a score of 64.

The Updike Industries’ team of Tom Terry, Adrian Updike, Brandon Pulliam and Kevin Norris claimed third-place with a team score of 65.

Rising LCHS senior Joe Azurin claimed the “Longest Drive” honors and Adam Hoover took “Closest to the Pin.” Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company’s team successfully defended their 2012 “Best Dressed” title. Andy Baugus of Richmond happily took home the final prize–a guitar autographed by country music star Alan Jackson.

All tournament proceeds will assist the foundation to award additional college scholarships to Louisa County High School graduates and creative instructional grants to Louisa County teachers.
