Dorothy V. Cundiff
Dorothy Vawter Cundiff, 86, of Vinton, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, June 18, 2013.
She was born on Oct. 15, 1926 in Louisa County to the late Ernst Linwood and Virginia Roberts Vawter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S. Wallace Cundiff; and her great-granddaughters, Lily Marie Doss and Emery Charlotte Doss.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Debbie Cundiff Davis and Marianne Cundiff Nester and her husband, Mike; her sons, William “Billy” L. Cundiff and his wife, Becky, and Samuel W. Cundiff “Sam” and his wife, Terri; her grandchildren, Ben, Andrew, Hugh and Kirsten Cundiff, Nick and Noah Nester and Tori and her husband, Marshall; her brothers, William Baxter Vawter and his wife, Frances, of Louisa, Walter E. Vawter and his wife, Mary Jo, of Hampton; and her sister, Barbara Vawter Garr of Culpeper.
She graduated from Mary Washington College and started her teaching career in Clifton Forge and then moved to Richmond where she taught school until her marriage to Wallace on June 6, 1952. After moving to Vinton, she taught in Bedford and Roanoke counties until she retired.
Dorothy was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church and a member of the Vinton Lioness Club.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Dr. William R. Booth, were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, at Vinton Baptist Church. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton.
Dallas H. Hicks
Dallas Homer Hicks, 64, of Louisa, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at his residence.
Born June 28, 1948, in Albemarle County, he was a son of the late Frank Gordon Hicks and Cora Rebecca Payne Hicks.
Mr. Hicks served in the U.S. Army and was retired as a heavy equipment operator at the Ivy Landfill. He loved to hunt, fish and collect bees.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Roxy Sollars Hicks of Louisa; one brother, Carl Hicks of Washington; two sisters, Sadie Roach of Scottsville, Greta Cora Dollins of Richmond; his sister-in-law, Stormea Baker and her husband, Tim, and their daughter, Lilly, of Barboursville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Hicks, Barron Hicks; and one sister, Texas H. Morris.
Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Wayne Collis, were held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville. Interment was in Culpeper National Cemetery.
