The Louisa County Airport/Freeman Field is abuzz with activity since Central Virginia Flight Services, L.L.C. is using the facility for its base of operation and owner Bob Vandervliet has assumed the role of Fixed Base Operator for the airport operation.

Central Virginia Flight Services offers clients an array of options including a flight school, aircraft rental and a fully staffed maintenance shop.  The business also offers a unique opportunity to see Louisa County and Lake Anna from the air through its 45-minute sightseeing tours.

“We are excited about our tours and have had several people take advantage of the opportunity to view the lake from the air,” Vandervliet said.  “Real estate agents have used the tours to view and show property and others have utilized it for aerial photography.”

The tours are available within a 25-mile radius of the airport and include Lake Anna, Lake Louisa and the Green Springs area as well as into Montpelier in Hanover County or the Courthouse area of Spotsylvania.

Vandervliet has been a corporate and charter pilot for 19 years and has been a flight instructor since 2004 when he came to live at Lake Anna full-time.

The flight school offers a variety of options to would-be pilots, including introductory flights similar to the tours and the opportunity to earn a variety of pilot licenses through lessons including recreational, private or commercial pilot and instrument flight standards.  He also conducts flight reviews for existing pilots to renew licenses and trains flight instructors.
