Motorcyclist hit by car, fatality under investigation, charges pending

A Hanover man thrown from his motorcyle on Sunday, Aug. 25, died at the scene of the accident on Bumpass Road, according to the Virginia State Police, which is investigating the crash.

At approximately 2:10 p.m. on Rt. 601, a 2005 Harley-Davidson SLS was traveling southbound. When the biker came through a curve, a 2006 Kia Sorento pulled out of a private driveway into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, David E. Plemen, 58, of Beaverdam was thrown from his bike. The driver of the car, Shannon L. Fields, 40, of Bumpass, was not injured in the crash.

Plemens was wearing a helmet and Fields a seatbelt.

According to Corinne Geller, public relations director with VSP, charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
