For Louisa’s varsity field hockey team, finding positives regardless of the situation has become a beneficial habit.

Entering their sixth year of competition, the program is just two years removed from its first win in the sport, and last year’s win total of three games was the team’s best performance to date.

The start of this season will be no different. Louisa fell in their season opener at home to Culpeper, 5-0. Playing with a lineup she describes as younger and less experienced, coach Meredith Marconi focused on the positives when addressing the team after the game.

“The scoreboard says 5-0, but that’s not the story of the game,” Marconi said.  “You guys played better than that.”

Team goalie Kelsey Stanley was particularly impressive. Even with a younger defensive line, she recorded 29 saves. It’s stats such as those that Marconi wants to build from.
