New manager Joe Capozella is hoping to make Roma Italian Restaurant a premier eatery for Louisa residents.

Roma Italian Restaurant’s newest manager, Joe Capozella has always had a passion for food. From his time growing up as one of seven children as a third-generation Italian-American, an appreciation for excellent cooking was almost an instinct, one rooted in heritage and tradition.

“When we eat together, we eat well and we eat big,” Capozella said of his family. “That gave me my love of food.”

After graduating from Pennsylvania Culinary School, Capozella became the head chef at a few restaurants at several different locations in the Charlottesville area. He became a food service salesman for U.S. Foods, during which time he developed a friendship with Roma Italian Restaurant owner Vinny Liguria.

Soon after Capozella decided to join the restaurant as it’s head chef at the end of April, Liguria felt the need to take a smaller role in the company. Capozella seemed the natural choice.

Now, Capozella, is hoping his passion becomes contagious. No, the restaurant isn’t being completely redone, but it is evolving.

“Vinny wanted some energy into the business,” Capozella said.  “I enjoy cooking and I love food, and that’s what he was looking for: someone to take Roma into the next decade.”
