Shortly after 11 a.m. this morning, Virginia State Police responded to the scene of a plane crash at Louisa County Airport/Freeman Field after the pilot of a 1929 Fleet fixed-wing single-engine place was attempting to land when a malfunction with the brakes occurred. The plane ran off the runway to the left and struck an embankment before overturning and coming to rest onto the cockpit, according to Sgt. Thomas Molnar.
The pilot, Bryon Stewart, 53, of Warrenton, and a 17-year-old female passenger, of Brandy Station, were not injured. The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and on-scene at this morning’s crash.
The plane was part of today’s 22nd annual Louisa County Airshow. This is the second airplane-related incident to occur in Louisa County in the past two weeks. On Saturday, August 24, a pilot crash landed in a field off Roundabout Road, but was not injured.
