Lillian D. Williams

Lillian Dabney Williams, 81, of Gordonsville, died Thursday, September 19, 2013, at the Hospice House in Charlottesville.

Born March 27, 1932, in Charlottesville, she was a daughter of the late John Staten Dabney and Alma Stitcher Dabney.

Mrs. Williams is survived by two sons, Wallace Dabney of Orange, and Wayne Dabney of Gordonsville; one brother, Ray Dabney of Gordonsville; one sister, Rose Williams of Gordonsville; six grandchildren, Lee Dabney and his wife, Wendy, of Unionville, Kelly Phelps and her husband, Tom, of Mine Run, Daman Dabney of Orange, Jody Dabney of Gordonsville, Jessie M. Carpenter of Gordonsville and John P. Carpenter of Gordonsville; four great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Melvin Williams; one sister, Lucille Arnette; and a grandson, Donnie Dabney.

A graveside funeral service, conducted by Chaplin David Flack, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, at Maplewood Cemetery, Gordonsville.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, at Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Pkwy, Suite 300, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

Stuart E. Hall Sr.

Stuart Edwin Hall Sr., 84, of Bumpass, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013.

Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy V. Hall.

Survivors include his daughter, Doris “Dottie” Waugh and her husband, Festus; five sons, Stuart E. Hall Jr., Roy, Herman, Bill and Charles Luck; ten grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, at Spring Grove Cemetery, Mineral.

Memorial donations may be made to Dottie Waugh, 75 Haden Ln., Bumpass, VA 23024.

Sherry L. Harrison 

Sherry Lou Harrison, 64, of Louisa, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2013.

Survivors include her husband, George W. Harrison III; her sons, Roger Harrison and his wife, Karla, of Mineral, Ronald Harrison and his wife, Iva, of Orange and George Harrison and his wife, Crystal, of Gordonsville; her daughter, Terrie Sharpe and her husband, Daniel, of Gordonsville; her brothers and sisters, Kay Cantrell and her husband, Marshall, of Maryland, Wilbur Ayers and his wife, Shirley, of West Virginia, Rex Ayers and his wife, Carolyn, of Maryland, Terry Ayers and his wife, Uschie, of West Virginia, Rita Cusick and her husband, Wayne, of Maryland, Deanna Welch of Maryland and Charlie Ayers and his wife, Maryann, of Maryland; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Opal Ayers; and her sister, Gail Spinks.

A service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Woodward Funeral Home chapel.  Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery, Mineral.

Marshall E. Nicholson

Marshall Eugene Nicholson, 21, of Gordonsville, died Sunday September 15, 2013.

Born August 30, 1992 in Charlottesville, he was a son of Cary Marshall Nicholson and Carolyn Nuckols Nicholson of Gordonsville.

Marshall attended Open Door Christian School and Louisa County High School where he graduated in 2010. Following high school, he graduated from Advanced Technology Institute for automotive mechanics in Virginia Beach and was currently employed by Jim Price in Charlottesville.  He worked at Shenandoah Crossings Resort while in high school and was part of the Crossroads Community Church family.

Marshall loved working on his car and hanging out with friends. He and his brother enjoyed racing at Summerduck Speedway and had recently attended the Richmond Nascar Race together.

In addition to his parents he is survived by one sister, Courtney Williamson Adams and her husband, Roby, of Lynchburg, one brother, Jesse Nicholson of Gordonsville; his paternal grandmother, Nancy B. Ryder of Troy; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Preddy Funeral Home, Gordonsville.

Funeral services, conducted by Pastor Edgar Greene, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville. Interment will follow in Rhoadesville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jan L. Welch 

It is with loving hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jan. Lynn Welch, 70, of Sevierville, Tennessee, formerly of Lake Anna, who went home to God on September 12, 2013, at UT Medical Center in Knoxville.

Jan was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Sevierville; his mother-in-law, Barbara Leith of Sevierville; his son, Jerry Welch of Grand Haven, Michigan; his stepchildren, Laurie McNeece and her husband, Roger, of Madisonville, Tennessee, Chris White and his wife, Laura, of Thurmont, Maryland, Tim White and his wife, Rhonda, of New Bern, North Carolina; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Tom King of Kodak, Tennessee; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild who will greatly miss and always love their “Jan-Dad.”

Jan was of the Lutheran faith and served the Lord through his community volunteerism and service to his country. He was born in Buffalo, New York, and spent his early years in Ohio, Massachusetts and upstate New York. He attended Northern Michigan University where he played varsity ice hockey all four years. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and was a trained med-evac technician during the Vietnam War. He moved to the Washington D.C. area in 1978 and worked in various government agencies until he retired in 2005. Throughout his adult life, he was a dedicated volunteer firefighter wherever he lived from 1970 until his passing.

A celebration of Jan’s life will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Atchley Funeral Home. Family will receive visitors from 4 until 6 p.m. prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Seymour Volunteer Fire Department.

Kenneth N. Woodson Jr.

On September 15, 2013, Kenneth N. Woodson, Jr lost his life. He was 41 years old. He was a supervisor at Aqua VA. He was a man who loved his family and friends. He loved fishing, hunting and working on his cars.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherrie Woodson, his sons, Chris Woodson and wife Chelsi, Curtis Woodson, his daughter, Kammy Woodson and fiancée Devin Speh, his pride and joy, grandson Tripp Woodson-Speh. He is also survived by his parents, Kenneth and Linda Woodson, three sisters, Tina Woodson, Kim Shifflett and her husband Todd and their children, Brandon and Morgan, Tammy Woodson and her children, Elijah, Briana and Taylor, grandmother, Leona Woodson, extended family, Mary and Tom Shaver, sister-in-law, Tracy Dunn and her children, Kiersten Dunn, Travis Fitzgerald, grandmother, Betty Rogers and many loving friends and other family members.

Kennybuck will be greatly missed by all. He was full of life, always laughing and joking. He enjoyed life and always encouraged everyone to do the same.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday September 21, 2013 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville with interment to follow in Spring Grove Cemetery in Mineral.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Thursday September 19, 2013 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sherri Woodson, 8993 Poindexter Road, Louisa, VA 23093.
