Posted on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 9:00 am

Louisa AARP will take a trip to Tangier Island, a small, largely unspoiled, fishing village lined with quaint narrow streets, on Friday, June 20.

Tangier Island is consider the “soft crab capital” of the nation. Although modernization has come to the island, it still has not lost its charm and the people of Tangier still speak with a lingering trace of Elizabethan accent.

Guests will arrive in Reedville and board the Chesapeake Breeze for the one and one-half-hour cruise to Tangier Island. Once arriving at Tangier, there will be a 2-3 block walk to lunch at the Chesapeake House where participants will enjoy a family-style lunch. The Chesapeake Breeze will be docked at Tangier for two and one-half hours. Following lunch, stroll along the small roads and visit the unique gifts shops, or for a small fee, hop aboard one of the local’s golf carts and take a tour around the island.

Departure will be from New Life Community Church, 509 E. Main St., Louisa, at 6:30 a.m. and will return at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The total cost per person will be $115 and will include round-trip motor coach transportation, boat cruise aboard the Chesapeake Breeze, lunch at the Chesapeake House, tax and gratuity on the meal and driver gratuity.

Checks may be payable to Louisa AARP and mailed by May 23 to Paul Hawes, 19 Amick Rd., Louisa, VA 23093.
