Rootstone Jug Band

The Rootstone Jug Band performs primitive roots music reminiscent of a time before radios when folk songs were woven into the fabric of rural life. Music from classic jug bands and forgotten songsters of Memphis come joyfully alive.  Rootstone is both unusual and remarkable.

Founded by Virginia natives, Sam Lunsford and Jeff Hofman, Rootstone consists of five talented musicians including: Lunsford on banjo, harmonica and guitar; Hoffman is on upright bass; Scott Baldwin is on guitar; and John Thompson is on guitar and banjo.  Rounding off this talented group is Paul Thompson on washboard.

“Rootstone Jug Band gives a grand taste of true Appalachian music,” Director, Michael Bollinger, Louisa Arts Center director, said.
