Arts Center gala this Saturday

The Louisa Arts Center will host Auction and Arias! on Saturday, Oct. 13, beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Purcell Gallery.  A silent auction of antiques, art, and unique items will begin during which a cocktail buffet will be served. Following dinner, a live auction will be held offering larger items. Among those items to be sold to the highest bidder, will be two large Dakota Jackson sideboards, an antique table, a chandelier, two silk upholstered chairs, and an authentic Miami Dolphin football jersey worn by Dan Moreno.

At 7:30 p.m., a concert will be presented by hometown girl, Leanne Pettit Clement, a Mezzo-soprano, in the Cooke-Haley Theater.

A graduate of Louisa County High School, Clement began her theater and musical career on the Louisa County High School stage. While a student, she appeared and starred in a number of plays and musicals including The King and I, The Diary of Anne Frank, Taming of the Shrew, and Fiddler on the Roof.

Most recently, she was seen as Marthe in the Opera Louisiane’s  A Fete with Faust, Mamma Lucia in Pensacola’s Cavalleria Rusticana , and the title role of Dinos Constantinides’ Rosanna. Clement can be seen as Sadie Burke in LSU’s production of Willie Stark, available on DVD on the Newport Classic label.

In 2007, she was a finalist in the Shreveport Opera Singer of the Year Competition. Clement is currently the executive director of Opera Louisiane in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she resides with her husband, Christopher.
