In the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 12, Louisa County Dispatch received a call concerning a structural fire in the 1200 block of Indian Creek Road in Mineral.
According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar, the two-story communal living residence was occupied by 18 people at the time of the fire.
Ira Wallace, of the Acorn Community, which also operates the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, said a resident was working at a computer and heard someone stomping around and went to investigate.
All residents evacuated safely and were assessed by emergency medical technicians at the scene.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the initial call and deputies preserved all potential evidence after the fire was extinguished. Virginia State Police arson investigators assisted. Special agents with VSP Bureau of Criminal Investigations from the Richmond office assisted also.
According to Deputy Chief Major Donald Lowe, the investigation team used a bloodhound and was able to identify a suspect.
