4-H Camp

Louisa 4-H Camp will be June 3 through June 7 for a week of fun, fellowship and learning for campers age nine through 13. Participants must turn nine before Sept. 30, 2013. The 4-H camping program provides a fun opportunity for boys and girls to learn skills through hands-on experiences while helping them build self-esteem and challenging them to be innovative and creative. Campers have the opportunity to participate in exciting classes, swim and recreation time, special evening events and more. Classes include archery, riflery, fishing, soccer, swimming, canoeing, basketball, dance, nature, outdoor living skills, photography and more.

Camp is more than just fun. It is also accredited through the American Camping Association, staffed with highly qualified staff and teen and adult volunteers, and focused on the 4-H “Learn by Doing” motto and experiential learning model.

Camp slots fill on a first come first served basis. The camp cost is $190 which includes meals, lodging, transportation and a t-shirt. There is a discount for more than one child attending. Payment plans are available after initial deposit of $50 per child.

Forestry Camp

Hiking in the woods or canoeing on the lake can be just some of the memories teens take with them from Forestry Camp. More than just a walk in the woods, campers experience hands-on learning about wildlife habitat, tree identification, timber harvesting, reforestation, environmental protection and more. They also take part in exciting field trips, exploratory classes, outdoor recreation and a Lumberjack Field Day.

Forestry Camp is open to Virginia residents age 13 through 16 years old who are in good academic standing, have an interest in natural resources, and have not previously attended Forestry Camp. Teachers, natural resource professionals and others who work with youth may make nominations for this popular camp.

Financial sponsorship is generously provided by forest industries, conservation agencies, associations and individuals. As a result, every camper selected to attend receives a scholarship and pays only $75 to attend the week-long residential camp. New sponsors are always welcome.

Holiday Lake Forestry Camp, will be held June 17 through June 22 at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center near Appomattox. This camp is hosted by the Virginia Department of Forestry, with support and cooperation from other conservation agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals.
