Candidates to speak out at scheduled forum

The November general election is nearing and voters will have an opportunity to elect a new governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general and representatives in the House of Delegates.

In Louisa, the electorate will cast votes for school board and board of supervisors’ candidates in four districts.

In an effort to help Louisa County voters get to know where their respective candidates stand on the issues, The Central Virginian and Louisa County Chamber of Commerce will co-host a Candidates’ Forum at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at the Louisa Arts Center.

“This is a great opportunity for candidates to answer questions from those who would elect them,” Steve Weddle, publisher of The Central Virginian, said.  “Part of our mission is to inform our readers and hold our officials accountable, especially in this time of government shutdown.”

Ginger Stanley, executive director of the Virginia Press Association, will moderate the candidates’ forum. Stanley is experienced with moderating debates, having done so for numerous political contests, as well as one previously in Louisa County.

In addition to local school board and board of supervisor contenders, the forum will include one gubernatorial candidate, Libertarian Robert Sarvis. Unopposed candidates will have an opportunity to speak to the issues briefly, while those who face opposition will participate in a debate format.
