First Baptist Church will host its annual Black History celebration of the Louisa County Chapter of the Virginia State University Alumni Association at 3 p.m. Appearing in a joint gospel music concert will be the Gospel Chorus of Galilee Baptist Church, the Glorious Family Singers of New Anna, the Workshop Choir of the Rising Sun and other groups. Soloists will include Deaconess Marie Trice and Sister Tammy Shelton Scott of Zion Travelers and Rising Sun, respectively. Following the service, a soul food dinner will be served in the fellowship hall by members of the local alumni chapter. St. James Episcopal Church Women are planning “Make a Joyful Noise” to be held at the Louisa church at 2:30 p.m. Albrecht von Gaudecker, the featured musician, will perform several pieces on the St. James pipe organ. Also featured in the program are soloists Jelita Hopkins and her father, James Perry. An ensemble will introduce the program and sing the beloved benediction “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.” von Gaudecker is a former St. James organist and choir master who is now at St. Paul’s Memorial Church, adjacent to the University of Virginia campus. Hopkins is the Louisa County High School choral director and Perry, is an accredited music therapist. The program will be followed by light refreshments in the church parish hall.
