Quit Smoking Louisa

Quit Smoking Louisa is a free support group where people can learn and experience different strategies for quitting smoking. Classes are free and will be held on Thursdays from 5 until 6 p.m. at the Betty J. Queen Center, 522 Industrial Drive, Louisa, though May 26.

Fish dinner

Lake Anna Rescue, Inc., 300 Bumpass Road, Bumpass, will sell fish dinners from 4:00 until 7:30 p.m. Menu consisted of baked or fried fish, shrimp, or chicken with two sides, beverage and dessert for $8. Sides: include mac and cheese, baked potato, French fries and coleslaw. Dine in or carry out.

Yard sale

Lake Anna Rescue, Inc., 300 bumpass Road, Bumpass, will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. which will include quilted and homemade items, purses, casserole cariers, toys, baby items, clothing, house hold items and baked goods. Beautification Festival

The town of Mineral will hold its Beautification Festival from 9 am. until 2 p.m. on Louisa Avenue, Mineral, at the Farmers’ Market location. Lots of plants, seeds, compost, garden ornaments, outdoor furniture and more. For more information, visit

CVMG trees workshop

Central Virginia Master Gardeners will hold a trees workshop from 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Louisa County Library, 881 Davis Highway, Mineral. The workshop will teach how to recognize and evaluate hazardous trees in the home landscape and a discussion of a “new” disease called bacterial leaf scorch. Youth speak forum

Nothing But the Word Ministry will sponsor a youth speak forum (ages 12-20) on Keeping it 100 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Betty J. Queen Intergenerational Center. Free admission and lunch. Family and Friends Day

Eagle Baptist Church will hold its annual Family and Friends Day with worship services at 11 a.m., followed by a church cook-out. The church is located at 4682 Mt. Airy Road, Louisa.

Renaissance music concert
May 1 @ 3:00 pm

A Renaissance music concert will be held at 3 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 102 Ellisville Drive, Louisa. Music of the 1200s through 1700s from Spain, France and the British Isles, on voice, lute, Renaissance guitar, recorders, viola da gamba and Baroque viola will be featured. Following the concert, attendees may ask musicians about the instruments and enjoy cookies and lemonade in the parish hall. The performance is intended to raise awareness of this beautiful music form and to support “Stop Hunger Now.”
