Preschool Read & Rhyme Time

Preschool Read & Rhyme Time is a fun program highlighting early literacy skills. Enjoy short books, rhymes, finger plays, a flannel story, and songs using shakers and rhythm instruments each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Designed for ages 2 through 5 with an accompanying adult or caregiver. Siblings welcome. The Louisa County Library is located at 881 Davis Highway, Mineral.

Golden Age Club

The Golden Age Club (open to all Louisa County seniors age 55 or older) will meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Betty Queen Center for a concert. Lunch will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Hunan Best Chinese Restaurant, 501 East Main St., Louisa (middle of Food Lion Shopping Center). If attending lunch, call the Louisa County Parks, Recreation and Tourism office at (540) 967-4420 before 10 a.m. on Sept. 8 to reserve a place.

Car show, yard sale and fish fry

Shady Grove Baptist Church’s Men’s Fellowship will present its seventh annual car show at 10 a.m., yard sale at 7 a.m., and fish fry at noon. Categories for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Family Day at the Heritage Farm

Get “Ready for School” at Family Day at the Heritage Farm with hands-on history learning from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.. Before the Trevilians School House was built in 1880, local families paid a teacher educate children in a rural setting. The Michie House was used as one of these rural schools in the 1830s. Learn the three R’s and participate in activities such as writing with a quill and ink, chalkboard and sewing a sampler. The Sargeant Museum of Louisa County History is located at 214 Fredericksburg Ave., Louisa.

Piedmont CASA will hold volunteer information sessions at Louisa County Library, 881 Davis Hwy., Mineral, from 12 until 1 p.m. and 6 until 7 p.m.  Anyone who has thought about becoming a court appointed special advocate in Louisa will find out how to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children in foster care.  No special experience is required, but volunteers must be at least 21 years old.  Volunteers are selected on the basis of their objectivity, competence and commitment. The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) will meet at Louisa County Library, 881 Davis Hwy. Mineral, at 5 p.m. for teens who want to help plan programs and activities. Snacks and drinks will be provided and participants will receive volunteer hours for participation. For grades 6 through 12. Registration requested.
