Golden Age Club

The Golden Age Club, open to all Louisa County seniors age 55 or older, will meet at 10 a.m. at the Betty Queen Center for a presentation on the railroad in Louisa County. Lunch will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Obrigado’s (cash only), 109 West Main St., Louisa. If attending lunch, call the Louisa County Parks, Recreation and Tourism office at (540) 967-4420 before 10 a.m. on November 10 to reserve a place.

Family Day at the Heritage Farm

Family Day at the Heritage Farm will hold a  “Colonial Thanksgiving” with hands-on history from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Established in 1742, early settlers of Louisa County came from many different cultures. Learn about the English, Scottish, Irish, German, Huguenot, and African traditions they brought with them and how they assimilated with each other and the Native Americans. Activities include trade and barter, making corn husk dolls and open hearth cooking. The Sargeant Museum of Louisa County History is located at 214 Fredericksburg Ave., Louisa.

Louisa Alzheimer’s Support Group

The Louisa Alzheimer’s Support Group is available for caregivers, family, and friends of someone afflicted with Alzheimer’s or any of the many other dementias.  Let us share our experiences with you and provide information to help you traverse the disease. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Betty Queen Center, 522 Industrial Drive, Louisa. If the local public schools are closed due to weather or holiday the meeting is cancelled. For more information, contact Jane Unbehagen, group facilitator, at (540) 872-2394.

Frugal Farmstead at the Heritage Farm

Experience “a day in the life” of the Frugal Farmstead at the Heritage Farm from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Using tips from 19th Century literature such as The Virginia Housewife, costumed interpreters engage visitors in performing daily life skills using tools and techniques of the time period. Seasonal activities may include sewing, spinning, weaving, gardening, cooking, laundry and other household chores. The Heritage Farm  is located beside the Sargeant Museum at 214 Fredericksburg Ave., Louisa.

Macedonia United Methodist Church, 17 Byrd Mill Rd., Louisa, will host its eighth annual community/hunters breakfast from 6 until 9 a.m. for donations only. Menu consists of scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, hash browns, biscuits, sausage gravy, coffee, juice and milk. Proceeds are used for church and community projects and missions.

The Tuesday Evening Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. at Louisa Library, 881 Davis Hwy., Mineral, to discuss “The Snow Queen” by Michael Cunningham. A heartbroken man turns to religion after seeing a vision in the sky above Central Park, while his musician brother takes drugs he thinks will help him compose a ballad for his seriously ill wife.
