Gum Spring United Methodist Church sill host a trunk or treat family event from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. with candy, pumpkin patch, costumes, baked goods, hot dog dinners, a Halloween movie and more. Decorate your vehicle and see if you win the “golden” pumpkin award. The church is located at 191 Cross County Rd., Gum Spring.

The Tuesday Evening Book Discussion Group will meet at Louisa County Library, 881 Davis Hwy., Mineral, at 7 p.m. to discuss “No One is Coming to Save Us” by Stephanie Watts. A tale inspired by “The Great Gatsby” is set in the contemporary South and follows the difficulties endured by an extended black family with colliding visions of the American dream.

Preschool Read & Rhyme Time is a fun program highlighting early literacy skills. Enjoy short books, rhymes, finger plays, a flannel story, and songs using shakers and rhythm instruments each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Designed for ages 2 through 5 with an accompanying adult or caregiver. Joining the Louisa County Hearth Cooking Guild for an adventure in hearth cooking at the Heritage Farm from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Participants, age 18 and older, will prepare the entire meal as our forefathers did over an open hearth. The class size is limited to 10 so everyone has plenty to do and eat. Register through Louisa County Parks and Recreation  (540) 967-4420 or online.  Wear long pants and good shoes.  The cost is $25 per person.
