Family Day at the Heritage Farm

Get “Ready for School” at Family Day at the Heritage Farm with hands-on history learning from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.. Before the Trevilians School House was built in 1880, local families paid a teacher educate children in a rural setting. The Michie House was used as one of these rural schools in the 1830s. Learn the three R’s and participate in activities such as writing with a quill and ink, chalkboard and sewing a sampler. The Sargeant Museum of Louisa County History is located at 214 Fredericksburg Ave., Louisa.

Piedmont CASA will hold volunteer information sessions at Louisa County Library, 881 Davis Hwy., Mineral, from 12 until 1 p.m. and 6 until 7 p.m.  Anyone who has thought about becoming a court appointed special advocate in Louisa will find out how to advocate for the best interest of abused and neglected children in foster care.  No special experience is required, but volunteers must be at least 21 years old.  Volunteers are selected on the basis of their objectivity, competence and commitment. The Louisa Chapter of AARP meets at 2 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month, September through May, in the second floor conference room of the Louisa County Office Building. All residents age 50 and older are welcome. Following a program, refreshments are served by member volunteers. AARP meetings and trips are a great way for seniors to meet and socialize with others.
