Louisa Alzheimer’s Support Group

The Louisa Alzheimer’s Support Group is available for caregivers, family, and friends of someone afflicted with Alzheimer’s or any of the many other dementias.  Let us share our experiences with you and provide information to help you traverse the disease. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Betty Queen Center, 522 Industrial Drive, Louisa. If the local public schools are closed due to weather or holiday the meeting is cancelled. For more information, contact Jane Unbehagen, group facilitator, at (540) 872-2394.

The Tween Scene: STEAM will investigate a pop-up MakerSpace for ages 9-15 with the theme “Hour of Code” at Louisa County Library at 4 p.m. A take-home starter kit will be provided.The library is located at 881 Davis Hwy., Mineral.

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) will meet at Louisa County Library, 881 Davis Hwy. Mineral, at 5 p.m. for teens who want to help plan programs and activities. Snacks and drinks will be provided and participants will receive volunteer hours for participation. For grades 6 through 12. Registration requested.

Preschool Read & Rhyme Time is a fun program highlighting early literacy skills. Enjoy short books, rhymes, finger plays, a flannel story, and songs using shakers and rhythm instruments each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Designed for ages 2 through 5 with an accompanying adult or caregiver. Siblings welcome. The Louisa County Library is located at 881 Davis Hwy., Mineral.

Frugal Farmstead

Experience “a day in the life” at the Heritage Farm with the Frugal Farmstead. Using tips from 19th Century literature such as The Virginia Housewife, costumed interpreters engage visitors in performing daily life skills using tools and techniques of the time period. Seasonal activities may include sewing, spinning, weaving, gardening, cooking, laundry and other household chores. The Frugal Farmstead program is held at Heritage Farm, beside the Sargeant Museum at 214 Fredericksburg Ave., Louisa. This free program follows an open-house setting from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Tastings Cookbook Club
Dec 18 @ 5:30 pm

The Tastings Cookbook Club will meet at the Louisa Library, 881 Davis Hwy., Mineral, at 5:30 p.m. with the theme, desserts. Every month, a theme is picked and a selection of cookbooks are ready to be checked out. Participants select a book and prepare a recipe from that cookbook, then the group gathers to share a potluck meal and prepared recipes.
