The annual Lake Anna Civic Association fireworks display will be held on Saturday, July 6 starting at approximately 9:15 p.m.
The pyrotechnic show is provided to the Lake Anna community through contributions from individuals, businesses and property owner associations as a means to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.
The fireworks will be shot from Dike 2, which offers viewing access from both the main lake body and the private side. Mike May is fireworks committee chairman for the civic association and is working with Ken Sadel to coordinating with representatives from Zambelli International and volunteers to set up the display on the dike.
A rain date of July 13 has been scheduled for this year’s shoot. After confusion over last year’s show, when a thunderstorm rolled through the community just prior to shoot time, the Lake Anna Civic Association has adopted a formal cancellation policy.
In order to have everything ready on time, the fireworks must be loaded into the launching barrels beginning around noon, so organizers will review the weather forecast that morning and make a decision by noon.
The status of the show will be noted on LACA’s website at www.lakeannavirginia.org. Should a storm come through about the time the shoot is to start, the committee will wait until the rain stops and then begin the 30-minute long extravaganza or, in the case of an extended shower, will begin the shoot by 11 p.m.
For safety purposes, once the tubes are loaded, they must be shot.
The shoot is expected to cost approximately $22,000 this year. To make a contribution to the show, send a check to LACA Fireworks, P.O. Box 217, Mineral, VA 23117.
