The Louisa VA Tea Party will sponsor a talk by noted financial expert James C. “Jim” Miller III on the fiscal crisis now facing the United States at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Best Western Inn and Suites Hotel located in Zion Crossroads.
Miller has experienced a lifetime of public service. Born 1942, he studied as an economist and earned a PhD from University of Virginia. He served as chairman of the Federal Trade Commission from 1981 through 1985, and as director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget from 1985 through 1988, both under the administration of President Ronald Reagan.
He also ran for United States Senate in Virginia, losing the Republican nomination at the convention to Oliver North in 1994 and losing the nomination in the primary to John Warner in 1996.
Subsequently, he has remained active as a senior advisor to Husch Blackwell, LLP, an international commercial law firm. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service and other notable firms, where his role is chairman of the audit committee or designated financial expert.
