A Cumberland man who was wanted by the Virginia State Police on two felony counts of hit and run for his involvement in an accident in Louisa County that left two people dead on Saturday, June 22, has been captured.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night, the VSP was called to the scene of the crash on Rt. 522 (Zachary Taylor Hwy.) and Rt. 719 (Days Bridge Rd.), where a 2003 GMC Savana 3500 van struck the back of a Kawasaki 1000 motorcycle.

Motorcycle operator Oneal F. Newman, 50, and his passenger, Joyce A. Herriot, 53, both of Spotsylvania, were ejected from the motorcycle and struck as the driver fled the area.

Newman and Herriot, who were both wearing helmets, died at the scene, according to authorities.

The suspected driver of the van, Kenneth Graham Wadford, 30, continued traveling southbound on Rt. 522 before the van apparently broke down. Wadford then fled into a heavily wooded area, VSP Sgt. Thomas Molnar said.

Virginia State Police and members of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office searched the area for Wadsford with no results.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, the state police asked for the public’s help in locating Wadsford, whom they considered dangerous.
