As the chill of winter is gradually replaced by the warmth of spring, a new ice cream shop in Mineral is hoping to help keep people cool.
Stella’s opened its doors a few weeks ago, and is still working on finding its niche in the town, though it seems to be trending in the right direction.
“Business has been a little slow, but people have been coming in and trying the ice cream” Jesus Lopez, Stella’s owner, said. “So far, everyone has liked it.”
Lopez and his wife Olga also own Sabor A Mexico in Mineral, which opened in 2014. They established a second location in Harrisonburg a couple of years later.
The decision to open an ice cream shop was an easy one for Lopez. He grew up in a large family of ice cream makers in Mexico. It was a family business that included not only his immediate family, but several aunts, uncles and cousins as well.
