It wasn’t a position that the Lady Lions were accustomed to, but continual adjustments and amendments made possible a different eventual arrangement as Louisa posted an 8-4 victory over the visiting Lady Fluco’s from Fluvanna on May 1.

“I think we came out a little flat, a little rusty due to a lot of things,” Louisa Head Coach Dan Barrett said. “We haven’t played for about a week now and the weather postponement didn’t help.  That doesn’t matter though, because it was no excuse for it, because we practiced well and Fluvanna came out ready to go and we weren’t.”

That uneasy beginning was initiated by Fluvanna’s Amber Dillow singling to short left field to open the game and continued one batter later when Brooke Herndon homered to right field, stunning the home crowd and producing a 2-0 lead for the visitors.

Continuing her personal onslaught into the second stanza, Herndon drove in teammate Ashleigh Kennedy with a screeching two-bagger to the outer limits of left field in advance of Taylor Beck, bringing home Dillow once again with an infield hit for a 4-0 Lady Fluco advantage.  For the evening, Herndon was 2 for 4 with a homerun, a double and three RBIs.

Seemingly over the initial shock of a four-run deficit, Louisa began its comeback with Morgan Kocolis’s two-out double to left field in the home-half of the second.  Plating two runs in the inning, courtesy of an RBI from freshman Sarah Sharpe and third-year Sam Madison, the Lady Lions sliced their deficit in half, inching ever closer at 4-2.
