The Louisa County High School girls’ basketball team took their season opener against Patrick Henry into overtime before ultimately falling short, 61-59.
Held in The Den on Nov. 27, the game started off with the Patriots jumping to a 7-2 lead over the first three minutes of the game. Sophomore Alexis Miller hit a three-pointer to bring the score to 7-5 and keep the Lions in it. The Lions kept things within striking distance after the first period, trailing by a narrow 12-11 margin.
The Patriots went on another surge in the second quarter, pulling ahead 23-18 at the midway point. Another Louisa three-pointer, this one from sophomore Sydney Cherry, got Louisa back within two, 23-21.
Cherry sank a second three-point bucket a couple minutes later to put the Lions ahead 26-25. She would end the night with 15 points for the Lions, 12 of which came from outside the arch.
