Last year, Louisa’s football season was filled with penalties, turnovers and losses.
This year, there’s no question that the team’s mind is on redemption. And after the Virginia High School League released the 2014 schedule last week, the Lions found out the teams they’ll have to go through to get it.
They probably recognize the road. This year, the Lions will play the exact same 10 teams they faced during the 2013 season.
“We’re going to take it one game at a time,” senior Trey Cherry said. “We don’t care who we match up against on Friday. We’re going to give it our all. We’ll prepare for who we play.”
Louisa’s regular season kicks off on Friday, August 29, when Spotsylvania will visit The Jungle for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. Last year, Louisa traveled to defeat the Knights 35-14 in a season opener that was much more competitive than the final score indicated.
As was also the case last year, Louisa faces an early bye week, as theirs comes in just the second week of the season. Louisa will return to action for their second game on Friday, Sept. 12, in an away matchup versus Courtland at 7 p.m.
In terms of home games, Louisa’s schedule is top-heavy. Four of the Lions’ five home games occur in the first six weeks of the season, meaning that three of the team’s final four games will be on the road.
