The Louisa County High School Marching Lions participated in the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association (VBODA) Assessment at Massaponax High School in Fredericksburg on Saturday, Oct. 27. It was an early, 6 a.m. report time for the students but the morning proved to be very rewarding. For the first time in many years, the Marching Lions received an Excellent Rating from the VBODA adjudicators.
The Marching Lions were rated in three areas, Music Performance, Visual Performance and General Effect. Some of the judges’ comments included, “very strong,” “fine selections,” and “good utilization of the guard.” Overall, the judges liked the show with its combination of interesting music from Queen and The Planets, and a challenging, difficult drill routine.
The final competition for the Marching Lions will be Saturday, Nov. 3 at Mills Godwin High School, 2101 Pump Road in Richmond. Performances begin at 3 p.m.
